Hi everyone, heading to Munich in late July with my parents (both 65+). They REALLY want to see Neuschwanstein but I’ve been reading that the actual inside tour is like 30-35 minutes and that’s after 2 hours of transit each way plus the uphill walk from the parking lot. Is it worth it or should we just view it from Marienbrucke and skip the interior?
Also has anyone done one of the small group tours from Munich with the minivan pickup? Just curious if that’s easier than doing the train + bus combo ourselves. Saw some tours on TourRadar that bundle it with Linderhof which might be more value.
Thanks y’all!

Doing the group tour from Munich is always going to be easier than doing the train + bus combo yourselves; especially if you have hotel pick-up.
The bus from Füssen (nice little town) can get crowded.
I’ve been there a few times, always by car; combining Neuschwanstein with Hohenschwangau for the bigger picture.
If your parents care more about scenery than interiors, viewing Neuschwanstein from Marienbrücke is usually the better experience. The inside tour is short, crowded, and only a small portion of the castle was ever finished.
There is a shuttle and horse-carriage that goes up. My girlfriend went up in the carriage, while I walked.
I should hunt out the photos on my hard-drive.
Michel.
