East Coast or West Coast.. for first time visitors?

I’d love to see the highlights of the US in two weeks and I have friends in both ends but I really don’t think it’s realistic to visit them all and see enough in that timeframe. Would love to get recs and maybe experience with the best (or worst) airports to fly into as well

I lived in San Diego, California, for a few years so I am a bit biased and would recommend the West Coast for a 2-week trip, and that is still not enough. LA and San Francisco are both good airports and starting points for a road trip.

I would do LA - San Fran - Las Vegas - San Diego - LA

Don’t spend too much time in LA (Hollywood Studios is fun, but other than that, not much to do there, max 2 days is enough, I would say).

On your way to San Fran, stop in Santa Barbara, and Monterey.

When in San Francisco, besides exploring the hilly city itself, make sure to go up north to the wine country and the Redwoods.

On your way to Las Vegas, make sure you take the route through Yosemite National Park.

And of course, Las Vegas is a must-see place, just to experience this crazy city in the middle of the desert. And you have to visit the Grand Canyon and other nearby National Parks. One of my favourite places was Anetelope Canyon.

And at last San Diego, I would do for a few days towards the end, because it is a chill city with beautiful beaches and great neighbourhoods to stroll in. Best Mexican food outside of Mexico.

I 100% agree with @TrailBlazrMarc

But let’s see - it depends! Do you like big cities, history, and a bit of beach? Then east coast! NY, DC and end in Florida (Miami and Disney world are right there and perfect for the end of the trip especially if you travel with kids)

If you are into nature - west cost is amazing! Never seen such amazing landscapes like I did over there. Grand Canyon and Yosemite are must stops. Personally I found Vegas fascinating, and you can spend less time in LA and San Francisco - good cities but not as amazing as the rest of it!

I would agree with all the recommendations for the west coast. It is gorgeous. But depending where you are from and what time of year you are travelling the East Coast in the fall is gorgeous with all the leaves changing colours and NYC is a hard one to beat especially if you have never been there.

I’m a big fan of the New England coast.

Acadia N..P, Portland, Boston, Providence, New York, and many smaller places in between. Less crowded, safer and more history.

Where is your starting country?

Depending on where your friends are located, how about Coast-to-Coast?

There’s plenty to see away from the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans.

As for airports. Where are you flying from, and will you fly back to the same place?

I’d probably consider an ‘open-jaw’, fly in to one city and out of another.

Such different vibes. What did you end up doing?

@wander_tara I would definitely recommend the West Coast. There’s so much to explore and the landscapes are incredible.

You could start around Los Angeles — visiting places like Hollywood, Santa Monica, and Venice Beach. Each area has a very different vibe and it’s fun to explore.

From there, you’re also quite close to Arizona, where you can see some truly amazing natural wonders like Antelope Canyon, the Grand Canyon, and even spend some time in Las Vegas.

If you want to go a bit further, you could head north to San Francisco, which is a beautiful city with a very different atmosphere. Or go south to San Diego, which is more relaxed and has great beaches.

And if you still have time… you could even cross the border into Mexico for a short trip!

Two weeks would give you plenty of options to create an amazing West Coast itinerary.
