Best place to vacation in the US for 2 weeks in June

Coming from California! I haven’t travelled much in the US and I have 2 weeks vacation, I’ve been to New Orleans (which I loved), and Nevada. There are so many places I would love to see but I have to narrow down my options! Ideally somewhere quite different from California, maybe with some mountains or history. Where would you recommend?

@suzanne The Grand Canyon is obviously impressive, but for me, Antelope Canyon was the real highlight — it was honestly breathtaking. The way the light filters through the narrow canyon walls is just magical.

Horseshoe Bend was also incredible. Seeing that dramatic curve of the Colorado River from above is such a simple but powerful view — especially around sunset.

I also really enjoyed driving through the Native American towns in between. It added so much character and depth to the experience beyond just the famous sights.

Red Rock Canyon was beautiful as well — particularly at sunset when everything turns this deep red color. It felt almost surreal.

If you’re looking for something very different from California, with dramatic landscapes and unique scenery, the Southwest is definitely worth considering.

Hello,

Are you interested in hiking, being by the water, being relaxed by a pool or what? So I can better think of ideas for you.

Indeed.

Sometimes these questions are so vague it’s hard to know where to start; especially with somewhere as large as the the United States.

I could create a website on recommendations and still wouldn’t cover everything. Oh wait, I have.

Seriously.

Is @suzanne going alone, with her boyfriend or husband, with children, or with girlfriends?

So I’ll be just as broad and see if we can narrow things down.

If you want mountains, history, and a vibe very different from California, you could consider Colorado or New Mexico for a blend of natural beauty (mountains or desert) and a range of cultural experiences.

Virginia/West Virginia is ideal for early American history combined with the Appalachian Mountains.

Utah offers spectacular landscapes but is more focused on striking natural parks than history.

And that’s just for starters.
