im on a wedding in Atlanta mid September and wanted to chill the week prior to that in the sun. I feel it’s too little time to stop over in costa rica or panama like i originally wanted. so now i was wondering if Miami would be a good idea? again, purpose is only relaxation and maybe yoga to recharge - activities are not my prio
June to November is the official hurricane season so unless you have the ability to make last minute decisions, I’d recommend staying away from that part of the country. September is when most of them hit according to these stats.
If you are willing to fly across the country, there is plenty to do and the weather that time of the year is amazing!
I can recommend going to the coast to Savannah, GA, a city where I studied and lived in for 5 years. It is a beautiful little gem and one of the most historic + well-preserved, and quaint cities in the U.S.
It has a thriving arts scene, mostly fueled by the university: The Savannah College of Art and Design, which hosts many events open to the public as well. There are also a multitude of galleries and museums focused around the arts.
Savannah’s sister city, Charleston N.C., shares similar history and just an hour’s car drive north, which I can also recommend integrating if you decide to go to the coast.
Along the way, you will drive through coastal swamp marsh in South Carolina, with beautiful spanish moss hanging from the iconic oak tress of this region.
September should be lovely weather, assuming no storms are about. This part of the coast is often naturally shielded from hurricanes, so tropical storms tend to dissipate to heavy showers by the time they reach Savannah and farther north along the coast.
If you’re interested in the nature, I can recommend the Savannah Wildlife Refuge, which is nearby Savannah and absolutely gorgeous for hikes.
I am obviously partial to the area since I lived there for so long, but it really is a highlight and many people that end up visiting and touring the city fall in love! If you would like tour recommendations, reach out: I’m happy to share!
If you prefer to stay nearer to Atlanta, I can also recommend hiking north of Atlanta and into the great Appalachian mountains, which are heavily wooded forests. The start of a pretty famous long-distance hike, the Appalacian Trail (AT), also starts just north of Atlanta, so if you want to do some hiking I can highly recommend this area.
I absolutely loved Savannah! Would go back in a heartbeat
Love Miami!!
You can get beach and city in one, I totally recommend. I was surprised myself when I went that I wouldn’t enjoy it but the city has such a fun vibe. There are some quieter hotels with beachfront access so you don’t need to be in the party vibe of the city.
If you are looking to relax and for places to do yoga in, I would recommend visiting Sedona AZ or Glacier National Park in Montana to connect and be one with nature. Namaste!
