What jacket for Scotland in October

Hi guys, very random but I’m traveling to Scotland on Saturday and am wondering what kind of jacket would be the best - any advice of someone who has been there this time of year? would it be crazy to take a (not-bulky) ski jacket you think? haha my normal ones are wool which isn’t ideal for the wet/cold weather combo

I just went recently to Scotland! I brought a good rain jacket because sometimes the rain comes from all sides and not even an umbrella helps. It was one of those thinner jackets that you can also wear for hiking for example. Since it was a bit chilly, I wore jumpers underneath. I would also recommend waterproof shoes.

well for that cold weather my ski jacket would be perfect, I’m just also slightly worried it’s too warm for my trip - maybe I’ll just need to take two

I would go with layers. I brought only 1 jacket and several jumpers

Resident Scot here. Agree with what Carina said. It’s not going to be too cold at this time of year, but the rain and wind will get you! Don’t bother with an umbrella. A decent rain coat and some cosy jumpers/scarf to layer should be fine. Hopefully it’s nice while you’re there though. Where exactly will you be?

yeah that’s the type of jacket I do not own which is my problem but I’ll think about what’s best, thanks a lot!! I’ll be in Edinburgh first, then we’ll do a lil organized adventure to some highlights like isle of skye, inverness and a bunch of stuff on the way, and then a few more days in the aberdeen region where we’ll have a car

“there’s no wrong weather, just wrong clothing” - definitely said by a Scot somewhere. No umbrella, just have a waterproof windbreaker and layer up. Edinburgh is windy, while the west coast is rainy
