I’m planning a 5-week holiday to Europe and have been warned not to take a suitcase with me. I can’t imagine hauling a backpack around for a month, but I don’t want to get stuck with a suitcase, especially on cobblestones or stairs. Does anyone have any recommendations for travel bags that might offer the best of both worlds?

Buy a travel bag with wheels!! There are a lot of options on Amazon and different prices as well - you’ll be able to switch up backpack to trolly as you see fit.
Extra good if it’s cabin size so you won’t have to pay for check in luggage ![]()

Agree with @micatravels - I have a great hybrid backpack with wheels from Mountain Warehouse that you can mix up as you see fit.
My advice - make sure you get one with proper cushioned backpack style straps INCLUDING a waist belt - these make a huge difference when using as a backpack. Mine also has 2 very sturdy wheels (not like flimsy suitcase wheels), that handle most surfaces very well. Then you get the best of both worlds!
