Salzburg regulars - is the Sound of Music tour actually worth a half day, or is it a coach-park singalong you can skip? I’d rather spend the time on the old town and a lake if it’s really just for die-hard fans. Straight answers from people who’ve done it.

I’ve been to Salzburg many times, never done the ‘Sound of Music’ tour, but then I only saw The Sound of Music as a child.
I’m not really what you would call a ‘fan’ of the film.

It really is for die-hard fans, coming from a die-hard fan! Lots of singing, limited time in each place, but still a really fun way to see it all. But if you’d rather be able to take your time and enjoy spots, might be better to do it on your own. It’s mostly walkable and further spots are easily accessible with a bus or a bike. I went back and enjoyed certain parts more on my own and really enjoyed that too.
