I need some advice! I’m planning a solo trip to SE Asia in April - I definitely want to visit Thailand and Cambodia. I have a bad habit of packing way too many stops into my travels and really want to focus on 5 or 6 destinations, but I’m overwhelmed by all these amazing looking places! My main interests are seeing animals in the wild, snorkeling and beach hopping, and seeing ancient cultures and temples (so Angkor Wat is a must). I also want the destinations to be fairly easy to travel to, I’ll take some flights between countries/destinations to save on time. What I really want to know is - what do you recommend as must see destinations in Thailand and Cambodia? And any input on whether I should just go to Laos while I’m there too?

I have recently been to Thailand and Laos and it was amazing. I did Thailand already a few years back but it was nice to visit again and see a different part of the country. Also I did Cambodia and it is a must-see destination. Overall you can’t go wrong and should see all three countries for sure.
My highlights in
Thailand:
- Bangkok (just a few days but a must for the nightlife and temples)
- Kanchanaburi (stay a night or two on a floating boat on the River Kwai)
- Full Moon Party on Kho Phangan (the island itself is also very nice with plenty of activities like snorkeling and island hopping)
Cambodia:
- Angkor Wat temple grounds for sunset
- River of 1000 Lingas (a bit less unknown)
- Killing Fields and Prison Tours (very sad but a must-see)
Laos:
- Out of three destinations, Laos was the least touristy one and felt very much like the old backpacking days
- Luang Prabang is a super nice small town (heavy French influence in the architecture)
- Homestay at one of the villages along the river
