Backpacking Asia

My best friend and I have decided we would like to travel to Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia - we want to experience each destination to its fullest whilest keeping the budget pretty low, so backpacking is a priority. Would anyone know any hostels or areas we should visit? When is the best time to travel? We have about 2 months before we both need to be back in our home countries.

Amazing! I backpacked in Vietnam & Cambodia, but didn’t get to Loas unfortunately (heard great things though).

Cambodia - Angkor Wat, of course, Phnom Penh & Siem Reap are the classics. I would DEFINITELY recommend the island of Koh Rong as well; the beaches are incredible. If you want to party, the Mad Monkey hostel in Siem Reap is the go-to, however, the White Rabbit looks great as well - both have a pool!

Vietnam - I crossed over from Cambodia to Ho Chi Minh and worked my way up! For hostels here, anything with good reviews on Hostelworld should be fine (many options). I went to Hội An, which I loved as well. Everyone gets clothes custom-made for cheap here. Phong Nha has incredible caves, definitely worth a stop in my opinion! Da Nang is a good stop if you want to see the famous hand bridge (but I wouldn’t spend too much time here). Hanoi, of course, is famous for Ha Long Bay, which you should do an overnight boat cruise on (quite cheap). The One Hostel & Rooftop Pool Hanoi is a great hostel here!

All of the hostels will have day trips and activities that they organise, so it will be super easy to book things as you go, and meet tons of people!
