going to a wedding next year in Thailand and planning on doing an adventure afterwards but torn between Malaysia and Laos. Anyone have any insights on any of those two countries?
As usual, it depends on what you are looking for:
Malaysia will offer more bustling modern city life and amazing but pretty developed natural environment unless you really go off the beaten path.
Laos on the other side is the relaxed and laid-back country of south-east Asia, with everything more rural, with interesting local ethnic groups and pretty beautiful nature in a less developed environment.
If you are in a rush and look for some highlights, I’d go for Malaysia. If you are going to have some time to hang around and are looking more on the local side of things, I’d get into Laos for sure.
If you need any itinerary suggestions, just let me know and I can help you out depending on what you’re looking for and the number of days you’re spending there
I lived in Kuala Lumpur for four years and I can tell you it is a beautiful country with an amazing nature.
That said, it is hard to beat Laos, mainly the city of Luang Prabang and its vicinities, you can explore the Mekong river and food there is unbelievable, really amazing.
If you can, go also to Siem Reap in Cambodia.
Anyways, you can’t get wrong, either option will be an amazing journey
more looking for the nature side of things than city. Already been to Cambodia and loved it. will be in touch once I need itinerary suggestions
What did you like about Cambodia? I have a friend who’s been and she didn’t recommend me to go there - now I am curious!
Everything … The history, the food and the people. I thought Thailand was the land of smiles, but Cambodia topped that for me. There is so much culture to explore. The temples are just breathtaking, but also the sad part of the history with the Killing Fields and all.
