Half board vs full board vs B&B: worth it or just eat out?

When I’m booking European hotels (Italy and Greece mostly) I always see these options and I honestly never know which to pick. B&B is easy, that’s just breakfast. But is half board usually a decent dinner or is it like the sad hotel buffet the locals wouldn’t touch?

And full board, is that ever worth it unless you’re somewhere truly remote? Feels like locking yourself out of trying actual restaurants. Curious what y’all default to.

Most hotels are usually just bed and breakfast; some don’t even have a restaurant.

Full board and half-board only really come in to play if you’re going to stay somewhere for three to five days. Long Weekend specials, for example.

If I arrive at a hotel in the evening, I usually just eat a la carte. Some hotels might have a buffet; usually if they cater to groups.

If the hotel does a good breakfast buffet, you won’t be needing lunch. Besides, do you really want to break up your day to go back to the hotel?

But that’s just me. I’d rather be out looking around.
