Ladies, help me out! I’m packing for a 2 week trip to Italy and France in June and I am struggling with shoes. I know we are going to be doing 20k+ steps a day so I need comfort, but I also want to wear sundresses and look cute/not look like a total tourist with chunky running shoes. Has anyone found a pair of white sneakers or sandals that actually hold up on cobblestones but still look stylish for dinner? I’ve been looking at Vejas or maybe Cole Haan but hearing mixed reviews on the break-in period.
@laura Hi Laura,
this is such a real Europe-trip problem — cobblestones + dresses is a tough combo ![]()
From experience, simple white leather sneakers are your best friend for Italy and France. They work with sundresses, skirts, even nicer outfits for dinner, and still hold up for long walking days.
One brand that’s often overlooked but actually works really well is Skechers. They have some surprisingly cute, open or semi-open styles that are:
-
very comfortable for long days
-
lightweight
-
and still look fairly polished with dresses
I’ve seen a lot of women in Europe wearing those in summer — especially the sleeker sandal-style or low-profile sneakers.
My biggest tip: whatever you choose, wear them a lot before the trip. Europe is not the place to break in new shoes ![]()
Comfort first — but you can absolutely still look cute.
