I don’t really like beaches (sorry) but I love lakes. Mountains reflected in still water, small towns with cafes by the shore, that kind of thing. Planning a summer trip and looking for recommendations.
Lake Como is the obvious one but it sounds crazy expensive and packed. What about smaller alternatives? I’ve heard of Hallstatt (but that’s apparently ruined by tourists now), Bled (Instagram bait?), and Annecy in France. Which European lake towns are still genuinely peaceful in July or August? We’re a couple in our 40s, not big hikers but happy to walk a few hours.
