Any tips for Japan?

We are heading to Japan next month and ive read so many tips and hints that it feels a little overwhelming! any do’s or dont’s or helpful hints and tips we would be very grateful. We are starting in Tokyo, going to Hakone for a night then 2 nights in Kyoto, 2 nights in Hiroshima and 3 nights in Osaka.

Thanks in advance:)

You won’t need two nights in Hiroshima; not even one. Probably shave a night off Osaka as well and discover more of Japan.

Just my opinion.

Japan is wonderful. 2 nights in Hiroshima would be a bit much, instead see if you can do a day trip to Mount Fuji. Some helpful tips are here:

  • Public Transport is amazing. Don’t bother taking cabs. Use trains, buses wherever you can.
  • Get a Suica card from one of the vending machines at the airport. You can use it for everything in Japan - Public transport, stores etc.
  • In Osaka, I would recommend going for a food tour.
  • Pack light, there are laundry machines in most hotels.
  • Most hotels/inns provide sleep wear. You can skip packing yours.
  • Kyoto is quite crowded with tourists. Try visiting the sites either very early and late evening for a comparatively lesser crowd experience.
  • English is not very common, respect that and use Google Translate to communicate with locals.

@AssertiveChile - I was in Kyoto, Nara and Osaka around this time last year, and it was amazing. You can find my travel tips here: Best time to visit Japan for cherry blossom season? 🌸 - #6 by DomiTravelini

If you are travelling to multiple destinations, get a JR Rail Pass beforehand, you can only get it before your trip. You will save a lot of money on trains (incl. the bullet train)
