I’m just back from the Philippines and can’t believe how warm and welcoming the people are. And I’m Irish! We are known for our hospitality but the people in Manila were in a whole other level. Where else have you been blown away by the people?
Taiwan and Vietnam (in the countryside like Mai Chau)!
You should try South America. The people in Colombia and Brazil, in particular, are so warm, generous, and welcoming!!
The friendliest people would most likely be in the Philippines ![]()
Philippines number one always! In my last trip I visited Canada which left me feeling so happy - people randomly compliment you on the street, are super friendly and smiley and really nice overall! Happily surprised!
I remember the locals in Vietnam being so friendly to me and helping me out a lot as a solo traveller find my way. I felt bad when I offered them money and they refused, as I’d assumed they were helping me for tips. I can say the same about India, a lot of people there try to sell to you, but I was also given gifts and flowers by strangers and shown amazing hospitality staying with a family there who welcomed me like family.
I also agree Canadians are so friendly, I was almost shocked when the bus drivers greeted me with a smile and asked how I was, wishing me a good day etc - then I found it was like that everywhere I went, I guess Im just not used to it!
You should try South Africa!
The locals are always ready for a “lekker” chat. Smiles, a sense of humour, and great hospitality can be found around everywhere.
I’m Canadian, so I’m a bit biased lol, but Canadians are incredibly nice, especially on the East Coast. But I also think that Thailand has some phenomenal hospitality!
Canada (minus the big cities), Mexico, and Guatemala!
I’m going to have to say Jordan. I was totally shocked when total strangers asked if I was lost, needed to get directions, or use their phone to call someone. I spent time in Amman, Petra, Wadi Rum, Aqaba and the Dead Sea. And just for reference, I’ve been to 32 countries.
People will be as friendly as you are to them (disclaimer: most of the time)
; perhaps it’s not really a place after all ![]()
Japan, Vietnam, Taiwan in my experience ![]()
