Best child-friendly destinations in Asia

Hello,

I’m planning a family trip for next year and am looking at destinations that are child-friendly. My nieces are both under 6, and I am concerned that places like Vietnam or Cambodia might be a little too overwhelming for them.

Would Japan or South Korea be better? Maybe even southern Thailand if we head to the islands? We’ll be travelling in May so I’m not sure if that makes a difference.

If anyone has any recommendations, please let me know!

Hi there!

I think Japan is the best pick! safe, stroller friendly, and full of kid fun (parks, museums, trains). South Korea is great too but a bit busier. Southern Thailand is lovely in May, but heat and transport can be tougher with little kids. If you still want to do Vietnam/Cambodia - have you considered booking a child friendly tour? You wouldn’t have to deal with transportation and logistics which will make your trip more enjoyable for everyone!

I would second Japan as being very child friendly! They also have Disneyland Tokyo so it’s like a must if you are travelling with younger kinds!

I don’t have children myself, but if I did I might be tempted to check in at the Tokyo Disney Resort for a few days.

Many museums in Japan are designed to be engaging for children, often featuring hands-on exhibits. For example, the Tokyo Toy Museum is great for younger kids and toddlers, offering interactive play areas.

Ueno Park in Tokyo is a wonderful spot for kids, featuring swan boats and Japan’s oldest zoo, which can be very entertaining for a six-year old.

The site is in Japanese, but there is a machine-translated version provided through J-Server.

KidZania Tokyo offers kids the chance to role-play various professions using real equipment, which is both educational and entertaining.

If you’re travelling around Japan, Kaiyukan (in Osaka) is considered one of the world’s largest aquariums.

Universal Studios Japan is also located in Osaka.

The Cup Noodles Museums in Yokohama and Ikeda allow kids to learn about instant ramen history and even create their own custom flavours and packaging.

Attending a sumo tournament could also be exciting for children.

Hi @kate25 I just attended a wedding in Thailand last year and everyone brought their kids (ranged from 2-16) and they all loved it. We were in Phuket and Khao Lak and it was great. There are so many things you can do, from the elephant sanctuaries, the local markets, boat trips and perfect beaches for them to just have a great time. There are so many great family friendly resorts as well with plenty of entertainment, so they definitely won’t get bored.
