I also want to know what your ‘place that left you speechless’ was @micatravels
For me - Patagonia (Argentina). It was out of this world stunning, I did have high expectations already, but honestly the most beautiful place I’ve ever been. Cerro Torre, hikes from El Chalten, and the Perito moreno Glacier - WOW - it’s my happy place!
San Pedro de Atacama is a close second!
On the complete other end of the spectrum - one place I went to that I wasn’t expecting to like so much was Nice, I went there last year to see a band and absolutely loved it. The food, the art, the ocean and the nearby mountains - just made me feel like I needed to get rich and move there Already planning to go back for a another city break!
So for me it was Greece! Specifically the islands- Paros, Santorini and Naxos. They all have amazing views, incredible food and wonderful people. I can’t express how many times I was completely speechless while I was there!
I cried the whole plane ride home! Plans to go back soon too!
Iceland for sure! I was there in the winter and was truly shocked about how beautiful it was but I would love to go back in the summer to experience a whole different type of beauty.
India. I had very low to zero expectations and it was a destination I was not really looking forward to traveling even. BUT I was blown away by the hospitality of the people and the country itself. The food, the colors, the sounds, the smells. It is just incredible. I only got to see a bit of the country and I will have to come back to discover more.
The Dolomites in Italy, each valley we drove into presented a totally different landscape which had my partner and I literally screaming “how is this real” at every turn , for about 3 hours straight.
Taiwan. Been twice and absolutely fell in love with the country. If you ever go there, I 1000% recommend:
South:
Kaohsiung (Dragon and tiger pagods, Cijin island, Pier 2 area, Shoushan monkey mountain, cycling),
Fo Guang Shan Buddhist complex
Kenting (stunning beaches and views)
Centralish:
Taichung (rainbow village, Miyahara confectionary shop, painted Anime lane)
Sun Moon Lake (beautiful views, boat ride, and markets, cable car to an indigenous centre)
Alishan (scenic forest railway, amazing hiking spots, sunset/sunrise over a sea of clouds, Fenqihu old street)
North:
Taipei (Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall, Ximending district, Taipei 101 (used to be the tallest building in the world)
Taipei surroundings (Jiufen - village with little streets, teahouses, amazing views, Houtong Cat Village - cat people, this one’s for us!)
Hot springs (I didn’t have the chance to experience them, but friends recommend them)
East coast (sadly haven’t been but will go next time)
Taroko Gorge - one of THE most stunning places in Taiwan. Couldn’t go because of a typhoon. Check if open because of typhoons in 2024
Sanxiantai - tide pools, beidges, great views
Stunning beaches and islands
The east coast suffers from earthquakes and tornadoes, so check the weather forecast in advance!
Personally, would recommend going between November and December. Weather is warm (especially in the south!), you avoid typhoon season, and it shouldn’t rain much.
For me it was South Africa! I didn’t know many people that travelled there, booked last minute and it is so far one of my favorite places ever! There’s so much to experience, from safaris to beaches, lots of nature and fun activities for my active fellow travellers! I would 1000% recommend
Mine is Ghana, I had zero expectations going in and it completely blew me away. I’d love to return but feel like it will never live up to the first time I was there, does anyone else have that worry?
Catania, Sicily, left me absolutely speechless, from the charm of Siracusa to the magic of Taormina, every moment felt unforgettable. The mix of history, coastal beauty, and the warmth of the people made me fall deeply in love with this part of Italy.
The scenery feels like you are on another planet. It really is a place that leaves your face like this most of the time > The waterfalls, the geysers, the black beaches, the Northern Lights. Spectacular.
Myanmar! I had no idea what to expect when I arrived. The moment you cross the border, you’re met with local hospitality that feels untouched by tourism. It’s like stepping back in time. Ancient traditions, unspoiled natural beauty and pure kindness wherever you go. What more could you ask for?
Have to agree with you here @Steff_789 ! The Dolomites are unbelievable and need to be seen to be believed. The other place I’d mention about being left speechless is Jordan… both Wadi Rum at sunrise and Petra are spectacular.
I am not a beach person, but I would definitely recommend going to the Dead Sea in Jordan. I think it helped my sore muscles:) It is so neat floating in the water!
Armenia in March, the outskirst of the capital are empty, its no longer freezing cold but still a lot of snow all around, frozen lakes, abondent factories and cities from the former USSR!
