Planning about two weeks in Thailand, first time, and torn between splitting it across Bangkok, the north around Chiang Mai and the southern islands, or picking two and going deeper. Trying to work out a sensible order and how many days each needs. For anyone who’s done two weeks, what did you include? Thanks in advance.
Two weeks can work for all three, but keep it simple: 3–4 days Bangkok, 4 days Chiang Mai, and the rest on one island area. That gives some city time, northern Thailand and proper beach time without spending the whole trip travelling between places.
I think two weeks is enough.
I flew in and out of Bangkok and spend a couple of days before/after our flights to experience the city, then 5ish days traveling in Khao Sok National Park (instead of Chiang Mai) where we visited the elephant sanctuary and stayed on lake huts on Cheow Lan Lake, then a week completely relaxed on Ko Samui. I think we could have done more with our week spend on Ko Samui and fitted in more, but it was good to chill.
The internal flights through Thailand are frequent and super convenient, and I think the hardest part of it all is picking which islands you would visit!
