My gf and I are going to going to Vilnius in Lithuania for 3 full days over Christmas.
Any tips or recommendations outside of the main bits (e.g. castle, cathedral)?
We love trains/trams, cats, rock music, vegan food, and unusual places
Thanks!

Youâll probably discover it on your own as itâs relatively central, but the Bohemian neighbourhood of UĹžupis is worth a visit for something different. Thereâs some great little cafes, interesting architecture and overall a fun vibe. I was there in the Summer, so canât comment on the winter.
While itâs not for everyone, the Museum of Occupations and Freedom Struggles (aka âKGB Museum), left an impression on me. Between the Germans and Soviets the region has a history of occupation and itâs not a story for the faint-hearted at times.
The other thing to consider is to do some research on âAmberâ before you go - âLithuanias Goldâ. There are lots of stores selling it - and while itâs not the price of gold, it was very cool to see everything they do with it and I wished Iâd known a bit more before I went.
awesome - thanks for the suggestions ![]()
@DomiTravelini How did your Christmas in Lithuania go?
@TravelNotes - it was amazing!
Vilnius lived up to its title of Christmas Capital 2025. The decorations, cobblestone streets, and colorful churches created a proper magical vibe.
I really liked UĹžupis, the artistic, bohemian area in the heart of the old town, which is kind of its own country within the city.
Then there is the LukiĹĄkÄs Prison, which today hosts a really unique-looking bar and more.
We also visited Trakai Castle on the outskirts of Vilnius. Itâs situated on a lake, next to a quaint town. The whole area is beautiful.
