Poland Trip Planning

I am planning a trip to Poland, and need some help!

  1. Perogies….where can I get the BEST ones, in Warsaw or Krakow?

  2. Has anyone been to the Auschwitz-Birkenau Museum, and would you recommend doing a tour there?

I’ve only been to Krakow and the perogies were soooooo good. Also it’s easy to navigate, the old town is small so easy to walk around and good accommodation. I also did the Auschwitz-Birkenau Museum, there are a lot of day tours that you can book from Krakow and easy to do. I just recommend giving yourself time after and not planning anything that night. It is a heavy day and we had a quiet night

Agree with @olivetheplaces I’ve only been to Krakow and the food is incredible everywhere! I couldn’t find the courage to visit Auschwitz (I also had a few couple of days while visiting some Polish friends) but I’ve been told is brutal and it is not for everyone.

Pierogies are everywhere in Poland and rarely disappoint. Top tip: Pierogi Ruskie: The Undisputed King. Don’t let the name fool you; “Ruskie” doesn’t mean “Russian.” The name refers to the historical region of Red Ruthenia. These are the quintessential Polish pierogi. The filling is a masterful blend of mashed potatoes, savory twaróg (a fresh curd cheese similar to farmer’s cheese), and sautéed onions. It’s savory, slightly tangy, and incredibly satisfying.

As for Auschwitz, I would encourage every adult to visit, along with Hiroshima, as only by recognising man’s capacity for inhumanity can we hope to avoid repeating it.

If you get chance also get to the Baltic coast; especially Gdansk and Kolobrzeg.
