Hi @jamie - Hopefully by November things will have quietened down.
Mexico, along with USA and Canada, have the FIFA World Cup Finals to look forward to in June.
Safety and Neighbourhoods to Stay In
Roma and Condesa are widely recommended for their safety, walkability, and lively atmosphere.
Coyoacán is also safe and charming, especially if you want something a little quieter.
Avoid staying in ‘Centro Histórico’ at night, as it can be less safe after dark.
Use common travel safety practices: avoid flashing valuables, use authorised taxis or ride-shares, and stay aware of your surroundings.
Mexico Travel Tips
Spend 4-5 days in Mexico City, if you can, to comfortably visit the Frida Kahlo Museum, Anthropology Museum, Chapultepec Park, and take a day trip to Teotihuacán; an ancient Mesoamerican city located about 30 miles (50 km) north-east of Mexico City.
Maybe take a food tour, early in your trip, to learn more about Mexican cuisine, and explore lesser-known neighbourhoods or try a cooking class.
I always like visiting local markets on my travels. If this appeals to you, look in at ‘Mercado de San Juan’ for exotic food displays.
While there are a number of scenic drives outside of Mexico City, you may be itching to get out to Oaxaca and the Caribbean Coast.
Riviera Maya and the Yucatán Peninsula is a completely different story, and can fill a good guidebook on its own.
