Skyscanner "hidden city" tickets... am I going to get banned?

I found a super cheap flight on Skyscanner that involves a “self-transfer” and what looks like a hidden city ticket (getting off at the layover). I know the airlines hate this.
Has anyone actually gotten in trouble for doing it once? I’m traveling with just a backpack so no checked bags, but I’m paranoid about them cancelling my return leg (which I know they do) or banning my account
Thought someone around here has some insight or experience…

I have never heard of this ‘hack’ before, had to look it up! So curious to hear if anyone has done this and what happened (and whether I should try it!)

If you risj it @grace - please let us know how it goes!

I have done plenty of flights with “self-transfer” and never had any problems, except for worrying sometimes that I would miss my connecting flight due to delays, but I always managed. Never heard about the hidden city ticket hack.
