Doing 3 weeks in Europe in May, hitting maybe 5-6 cities. I keep pricing Ryanair flights at €19 and then by the time I add my carryon, a seat so I don’t get split from my partner, and priority boarding it’s like €90 and I still have to schlep out to some airport 90 minutes from the city. Meanwhile trains are pricey but city center to city center.
Y’all who’ve done both, is the low cost flight drama actually saving money once you count everything? Or should I just buy a bunch of Trainline tickets and chill.

You’ve just discovered the great European travel truth.
Ryanair is only €19 if you travel with nothing but hopes, dreams, and a single toothbrush.
I’m an overland traveller as much as possible, as we see much more of where we’re going; and, as you say, trains bring us right into the heart of our destination.
Once you add the things normal humans need like bags, seats, not sprinting across a field to reach ‘Frankfurt-Hahn’, the price gap between flights and trains shrinks fast.
Many people forget to factor in getting to their final destination from the ‘Budget Airline’ airports.
But the right choice depends on the type of trip you want.
It’s not always ‘just’ about the money, especially when all the add-ons start to rise significantly anyway.
