Hello y’all. I’m trying to plan our transport for a week in Switzerland and my jaw dropped at the train prices.
Is the Swiss Travel Pass actually worth the $400+ per person if we are mostly just staying in the Jungfrau region? Or is the Half Fare Card the better way to go. The math is making my head spin.
I bought my train tickets one by one and it did not end up being as expensive as I expected. I travelled everywhere by train in Switzerland and honestly it was one of the best parts of the trip. Even the train cafés are so nice, with white tablecloths and proper service. I would really recommend the Bernina Express as well, but definitely book that ticket before you go because it can sell out quickly. You can check my video to get more information about Bernina https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XNVhgxdQwL0&t=5s
The Swiss Travel Pass is only worth considering if you’re going to spend every day travelling by train.
I used to use it for skiing holidays, but in those days it never cost anywhere near $400.
As for the ‘Half Fare Card’, that costs about 150 Swiss francs and is valid for a year.
Will you be returning to Switzerland within the year?
If you’re only in Switzerland for a week and will be staying in the Jungfrau region, will you really use 300 CHF worth of train travel? I doubt it.
Probably pay as you go will serve you better.
It really depends on how much you will use public transport.
I have the half-fare card, but I spend a lot of time in Switzerland.
I just bought a new half-fare travel card, and it cost 190 Swiss francs.
But if you’re coming from abroad, it still looks like 150 Francs.
