Sleeper train or flight in Egypt?

I’m looking to book a trip to Egypt and am of the understanding I would need to take a sleeper train from Cairo down to Luxor or Aswan to start a Nile cruise. I heard the sleeper trains take several hours, and I’m a bit apprehensive. My other option would be to fly from Cairo down to the start point. Are there pros and cons to both? Which would you recommend as someone who wants to maximise their time in Egypt but on a budget?

I personally believe that while I am on holiday, that I should spend my time and money wisely. I heard the Egyptian sleeper trains are not really comfortable and I don’t know about you, but sleep is very important for me to function properly the next day. If it was up to me, I would choose to stay the night in Cairo and fly out the following morning to Luxor or Aswan.

On the other hand, if you are on a sleeper train, maybe you will get to see another side of local life that is not experienced near the touristy areas. Again, there are pros and cons to everything but strictly speaking from a comfort point of view, I would recommend a flight.

I had the same question @marina and got some great details in this thread here: Sleeper trains vs Flights from Cairo to Aswan - Egypt - TourRadar Community

Let me know what you decide, I think I’m going to go for the sleeper train!

Hi @marina, as there’s already a thread discussing this topic here. I’ll close this one to keep all replies in one place.
