I’m literally sitting in a cafe in Panajachel right now and I feel weird even typing this because every travel blog treats Atitlan like the second coming. I’ve been here 4 days. The lake is pretty, sure. But Pana feels kind of run down and hustle-y, San Pedro is fine but just a party town, San Marcos is very “I did ayahuasca yesterday” energy which isn’t my thing.
I was expecting to be blown away and I’m just… not? Is it me being a grump or does this place work better for certain types of travelers? I feel like I should love it.
Did anyone else feel underwhelmed here, and did you find the thing that clicked later? Or should I just cut my losses and head to Antigua early?
