My husband and I (63 and 66) have done a couple of river cruises (Viking Rhine and Danube) and loved them. Now we’re thinking about trying a guided tour instead, maybe Egypt or Morocco, because river cruises obviously don’t go there.
For those who’ve done both: how different is the experience? I love that on a cruise you unpack once and your hotel moves with you. On a guided tour, do you change hotels every night or is it more like 2 to 3 nights in each place? Also, is the comfort level similar or a step down from a cruise? My husband has strong opinions about thread counts lol.
Viking is the way to go! You’re right about the benefits- you unpack once, you have a home base that moves with you, and I found the service with Viking exceptional.
With guided tours you can stay a couple days in each place- but not every itinerary is like that. Some itineraries have you moving every day!
I also have a husband with strong thoughts on comfort and he only had good things to say which was pleasantly surprising!
My dad and I (96 years old and 72) went on a vantage tour to Egypt. 7 days on the Nile and the rest was a small group tour. Great food and the rooms were large with a couch. Similar ship to what you were on when cruising the Danube. Great tour.
