Hello. I’m 38 and want to do a group tour in Peru. I don’t want to be on a “party bus” with 18 year olds, but I also don’t want a retirement coach tour.
Does anyone know which G Adventures style (Classic vs National Geographic?) attracts a slightly older/calmer demographic? Or is Intrepid better for that?
Looking forward to your suggestions.
Hi @tim!
I think you’re definitely on to something with G Adventures and Intrepid with your age bracket, but both companies offer 18-30 something tours as well as ‘open aged tours’.
I would imagine the party crowd 18 yo opt for the your tours, as they are more affordable and geared towards that age range. But you never know who will book the same date as you - it will always change from date to date.
If you are looking at the open aged ones, I think either would be a good shout. Peru also tends to attracts more ‘mature’ (not old) travellers, especially if it involves one of the multi day treks.
Intrepid actually has ‘Intrepid Premuim’, which is their version of G Adventures National Geographic trip with higher accommodation standards and inclusions. Definitely not for ‘retirement’ busses, but I guess both have a higher average age in the group than there standard trips. (I know my Aunt went with Intrepid Premium in late 60’s - but she is adventurous!)
I honestly think either would work great, and you can check out the itineraries and reviews from past travellers to see what fits you best!
I traveled with GAdv from Delhi to Katmandu. And also w Intrepid in Laos, Vietnam & Cambodia..35-45. My friend and I, in our late 50s requested to join ( they knew me and my history)and it was great. We also love traveling w young movers. But believe me, a lovely group but not well traveled nor knowlegeable. We helped them even took care of their wallets. You get the idea. Summarizing both tour groups are nice. W GA u rough it up more. Yet u should be open to new experiences. The company is more strict on requirements of age, and level of difficulty. Both tend to groups small<20) and mixed. Most in their 40’s . No one talks aboat age just stamina. I take University BA students all over and except for partying they are not much into anything, I have to encourage reading, almost force them into museums, etc. I still carry on heavily and travel solo all over for more than 3 straight months. Don’t misjudge age w class. Last summer I was 19 days in Citavechia and joined a beautiful group. 2 had mobility issues when told of the difficulty of rainy days and difficult area they chose to stay. In all try all. Personally, I love to befriend across generations but only if the person has a good conversation and are knowledgeable .
