Europcar monthly rate way cheaper than daily x30, what's the catch?

Looking at renting a car in Lisbon for exactly 30 days in autumn. The daily rate works out to about 1,400 EUR for the month, but their “monthly” package is showing as 780 EUR for the same dates and same car category. That’s a huge gap and I’m waiting for the other shoe to drop.

Is there a catch? Mileage cap? Different insurance? Does the car have to stay in country? I emailed them and got a generic reply. Anyone actually booked a monthly with Europcar, is it as clean as it looks?

You should also compare some local companies in Lisbon — sometimes they end up much cheaper than the big international brands. I remember seeing good prices from companies like Go Car or Guerin too.

One thing I’d really pay attention to is the insurance. The base price always looks amazing at first, but the extra insurance and deposit conditions can suddenly make it much more expensive
