Been surfing for 6 years and El Salvador has been on my list forever. Everyone says El Tunco and I’m sure it’s great but it also sounds like it’s basically a 3 block gringo strip at this point. Are there quieter options with decent waves, Punta Roca, Las Flores, El Zonte maybe?
Also real talk about safety. I know the government’s been aggressive with the gang crackdown and tourists say it feels safer than ever, but I’ll be moving around with a board bag and that screams “has stuff.” Would you rent a car and drive around the coast or is that asking for trouble?
