Do guided tour hotels actually match the brochure? (Egypt specifically)

This might be a silly question but I’m spending a lot of money on a guided tour of Egypt and the website just says “4 star hotels” without listing which ones. I’ve learned the hard way that a 4 star in Egypt is not the same as a 4 star in France.

Has anyone done a guided Egypt tour and can tell me: did the hotels match what was advertised? Were they centrally located or out in the middle of nowhere? And is there a way to find out the exact hotel names before you go, or do they only tell you a few weeks before departure? I just want to manage my expectations.

Well, it’s always nice when the hotel name is given so that we can take a closer look.

We all have different expectations, and even if we know the name of the hotel, they are not always like they are in the brochure. Even four star hotels in France are not always as good as one might expect them to be.

Most reviews are quick to point out the horrors.

Even in the positive, what some might call a good breakfast might not be enough to feed a sparrow.

Even the tour itself. It’s amazing what some bad weather can do to an experience.

Hotels are usually centrally located in Cairo and Luxor, but Red Sea resorts may be farther out.

Managing expectations is a wise approach.

Think lower and you could be pleasantly surprised. Aim high and you might be sadly disappointed.
