Cheap hotel in Berlin - which areas are good to have it in as well?

Hey all!
I’m heading to Berlin on a tight budget. I am looking for a cheap hotel if anyone has any suggestions, but I also don’t want to be in a sketchy/scary area or 45 mins from the center.
Which bigger neighborhoods are good for budget stays but still have cool cafes/bars nearby? Heard only good things about Wedding, would any of you recommend it? Any specific hostel or budget hotel names you guys trust? Thanks.

Hi @deborah! I can recommend the Steps Hotel in the Liebenwalder Strasse (near Neauer Platz) The Steps Hotel in Berlin Mitte – Wedding – affordable and central | Steps Hotel - Das Hotel in Berlin Mitte - Wedding

It’s quite affordable, 30 mins away from the city center by public transport, or a 20 min bike ride.

I also once stayed in Prenzlauer Berg, which is a very lovely but more “rich” area. I had luck with a very nicely-priced airbnb! Walked from there to the city center (Alexanderplatz). Recommend Mauerpark on the weekend (they do live music and people just chill out) and wandering the streets and exploring cafes and restaurants.

Berlin Mitte is a great area to stay. Lot’s of bars and restaurants and as the name says, pretty central. I stayed a few times at the Generator Berlin Mitte. It’s a hostel/hotel that offers private rooms and decently priced.

I can also recommend the Mitte area! Here you’ll find plenty of easy transit connections plus restaurants and shopping which make it very convenient. Near the Generator is also the St. Christopher’s Inn hostel, which is also popular.

I stayed in Friedrichshain a few years back and loved this area. It’s got an ‘alternative’ kinda of feel with some cool cafes and restaurants specifically Urban Spree - which has art and music too. It was walkable to East Side Gallery, and also a train station to easily get into the centre. But the area itself is worth spending time in.

Also hired a bike and rode from Friedrichshain to Spreepark (abandoned theme park), along the river which i recommend!

I used airbnb which must have been affordable for me to book it, not sure about hotel prices.

good shout with Friedrichshain, @ck_explorer1000!

Was at Urban Spree the first time I visited Berlin – such a cool place. Would love to go to Spreepark on my next visit
