I’m 33, traveling solo to Berlin for 5 nights in September. I do want to meet people (bar crawls, tour groups, whatever) but I don’t want to be the oldest one in a 12 bed dorm full of gap year kids doing tequila shots at 2am.
Is there such a thing as a “grown up social hostel”? I’ve been looking at Circus Hostel and EastSeven. Are those more my age range or still too young? Private room ideally, under 100 EUR.
Berlin attracts plenty of solo professionals taking a break, Digital Nomads, Europeans doing long weekends, and Americans/Canadians in their 30’s travelling solo.
I worked in Berlin for a while, when I was 33, and we were often out until early in the morning.
I couldn’t do it any more though, that’s for sure.
There are a number of Berlin ‘hostels’ that fit the ‘adult social’ category, but how many do you really want to choose from; and what’s going to be the ‘deciding factor’?
You’ve probably hit upon the best candidate - EastSeven - for a balance of mature and social.
Circus Hostel is slightly younger but still very adult-friendly.
The Social Hub, Alexanderstraße 40, is more of a co‑living space, with private rooms.
St Christopher’s Berlin (Alexanderplatz) is a little younger overall, but they do have private rooms.
Mitte is a little more expensive.
For meeting people without the chaos, you could try Alternative Berlin Tours or Original Berlin Tours; both attract a 25-40 age group.
