I’m planning to go to New York next year in Autumn. Any recommendation if it’s better to go there in September, October or November? I thought September might be better because of the weather but NBA and NHL season just starts end of October
Forget sports … broadway baby
I went in mid-October last year and the weather was phenomenal in the day (though a bit chilly at night)! You’ll probably also get a bit more of the fall foliage in Central Park etc. by October - and even more if you’re planning on travelling inland to Hudson and beyond. I also got super cheap pre-season tickets to see the Nets play (they lost miserably) on SeatGeek same day. That said, I think they start to put up the Christmas decorations in the city at the very end of November which are also amazing! And if you’re taking Marc’s Broadway suggestion I would also recommend trying for rush tickets!! I saw two Broadway shows in October and got great seats for $25/$30 a piece just by asking the box office if they had any rush tickets left
We also went in October last year and the weather was phenomenal (around 20 degrees during the day!) Can definitely recommend And also have some other recommendation, let me know if you want them
Marc why forgetting one when you could have both. Jules thx a lot for the insights from your last trip
I was there from October 8th to 15th (right before AT - st. you should probably also check for next year )
I personally love New York in winter as well, if you don’t mind bundling up and braving the cold, plus you have plenty of excuses to nip into a lovely little cafe or restaurant to warm up. If it were me, I’d brave the cold and catch a hockey game
Although I’ve never lived there, I know it quite well. If you want to build an itinerary, let me know, Also, for NHL and NBA, Toronto is an option too.
Big Apple is good any time of the year! If you are up for a day or two of out-of-state excursion, mid-October is also the most spectacular time to visit Vermont for amazing fall colors.
Thx for the tips
I would probably say October would be a good time! If you’re an NHL/NBA fan then the seasons will be in full swing in the last half of October. Plus New York starts getting pretty cold in November lol
Similar to what @BrokeSinceBangkok says, I would go in September. It is a good time in between seasons. June/July it is very hot in the city. And then November/December it gets pretty cold. So September (maybe October) would be my suggestion.
October is the way to go! But, if you go in September you can also catch a baseball game if you’re not fussy about the type of sport but just want to see a sporting event.
I will go on the October bandwagon here and agree with everyone else. You want to try to go when the local kids are in school and there are fewer crowds. Sure, the weather may start to get a little chilly, but it’s all part of the experience! Plus, like you said, NHL baby, that’s in October. Seeing the Rangers play in NYC would be a really cool experience!
