Planning a bucket list trip to Finland for next February to see the Aurora. Is Rovaniemi good enough for seeing them? I know it’s the main “Santa Claus” hub but I’m worried it might be too bright/light polluted? Should we be looking at going further north to Ivalo or Inari to increase our chances? We only have 4 nights so want to maximize our odds.
The Northern Lights is something I’d like to see, so will be watching this thread for tips.

Hi @yvonne !
While I haven’t been up in Lapland, my partner is from Finland, and a good friend of ours is from Rovaniemi. She basically sees them all the time – we’re getting jealous!
So Rovaniemi, if nothing else, is at least a great starting point.
Check out Visit Finland’s tips on how to see the northern lights – it’s quite detailed ![]()
