Bratislava is a small capital city and very easy to walk around.

Be sure to visit St. Martin’s Cathedral, the coronation site for ten Hungarian kings, one reigning queen, and seven royal consorts (from 1563 until 1830), after the Ottoman occupation of Hungary made the traditional Hungarian coronation city of Székesfehérvár not feasible.

There was a replica of the Holy Crown of St. Stephen at the cathedral, when we were there. The original is in the Budapest parliament; which can be viewed on guided tours.

From St. Martin’s Cathedral, it’s a short walk up to Bratislava castle.

Or you could start at the castle and follow the coronation route down to the Cathedral and around the old town.

A stroll along the Danube River is also recommended.

great suggestions for Bratislava, @TravelNotes!

@EagerHanoi - there are plenty of great restaurants in Bratislava’s beautiful old town serving up traditional Slovak food - definitely recommend getting some Bryndzové halušky(potato dumplings), for example.

While I’ve been to Bratislava many times, I haven’t been to a jazz club (even though I do love jazz & blues), only to more rock-ish concerts. But I’ve heard the music clubs are pretty cool.

In Vienna, you have Porgy & Bess and Jazzland - think from what I know from my friends, they’re pretty good.

If you’re traveling between Bratislava and Vienna, the train is super quick (cca an hour), but I do recommend the Twin City Liner boat. Takes a bit over 3 hours and it’s pretty nice, especially in spring.

Regarding smaller towns in the area: Tulln and Krems (west of Vienna along the Danube) are very very cozy, quaint and walkable. South of Vienna, you have Baden, a picturesque spa town. I have a soft spot for Linz, midway between Vienna and Salzburg.
