Heading to Lagos for 3 nights next July and the Benagil Cave is top of the list. I see boat tours and kayak tours and SUP tours and I genuinely can’t tell which one actually gets you INSIDE the cave.
From what I understand the boats just drive past and you look at it from the water, but kayaks can actually paddle in? Is that right? Also heard the kayak is pretty strenuous and the waves can be rough. I’m reasonably fit but not exactly athletic. What did you do and what would you recommend?
Last year my husband and I did a boat tour there and honestly the scenery was incredible, but the ride itself was pretty intense The wind and waves were so strong that the boat was constantly going up and down and both of us got quite seasick.
So if you choose a boat tour, I’d definitely recommend checking the weather and sea conditions carefully beforehand. On calmer days I think it’s an amazing experience, but rough weather can make the trip much harder than people expect.
From what I’ve seen, kayaks can usually get closer and even enter the cave depending on conditions, while bigger boats sometimes stay a bit outside.
