Putting together a first trip through Vienna, Prague and Budapest, about ten days, and trying to work out the order and how long in each. Is it better to start in Vienna and work east, and do two nights per city do them justice or is that too rushed? For anyone who’s done the three, how did you split it? Thanks in advance.

It all depends on your flights or how you plan to get to and from the cities.
I’d do Prague, Vienna, Budapest as it’s linear; adding Bratislava to Vienna.
My general rule is 3 days in each destination minimum. That gives you a chance to really explore the area, take in the culture, and enjoy some time without feeling rushed. I did Prague for 5 days, and then Budapest for 5. Went back for Vienna and Salzburg another time.
