Italy itinerary help: Trying to fit Rome, Florence, and Venice into 7 days - is it possible?

Help! I’ve only got 7 days in Italy and would love to see all three cities but I also want to make sure I can actually see what each city has to offer. I fly in and out of Rome, do you think it’s possible to fit in Venice and Florence without it feeling too rushed? And make my way back to Rome? Can anyone tell me if they have acheived this in 7 days, and what the best way to travel between al 3 is if so? And any musts sees in Venice and Florence? Thank you!

Yes, you can fit them in if your aim is to just get a taste of each place and you have seven full days not including arrival and departure. If not I would only choose two. You will need to do some planning and pre booking. Travel between the cities is fast by train. You can pre book on Trenitalia.(Official railway) It is a few hours between each city. You could go Rome to Venice, Venice to Florence and then Florence to Rome. Venice and Florence are walkable. A guided tour of Rome would be helpful for a first visit.

In Venice you arrive at the station and then can catch a water taxi to your accommodation(either private or public) Then it’s a matter of wandering around the alley ways exploring and just enjoying the idea of it. The main attraction for a first visit is St Marks Basilica and Square, the Rialto Bridge and the markets. There are art treasures and palaces etc but not possible to see everything. One full day and one night is enough. Unfortunately Venice is now overrun with tourists but it is a place you won’t forget.
Stay at least two nights in Florence, three if you want to go into the Tuscan countryside and see a few villages such as San Gimignano and Sienna (book a tour) In Florence you need to book in advance to see Michelangelo’s Statue of David and visit the magnificent Duomo. Part of it is free but if you want to climb the tower you must book. You can just wander the streets and come across markets and little shops. Florence is known for leather goods(although need to check for fakes). There is so much history and art in Florence but again you need time. Investigate the Medici’s you may want to visit the Palace which holds art treasures.

There’s a famous food market and a famous perfumery that is at least 800 years old Santa Maria Novella. It’s small and easy fairly flat walking.

In all places it is worth booking your accommodation in the heart of it to save time and so you can enjoy the atmosphere and go out at night without worry about getting back. Each city has atmosphere at night ith many people out and about. So near St Mark’s in Venice, near the Duomo in Florence and near the places you choose to visit in Rome.

It’s possible, but a really bad idea to try to squeeze Rome/Venice/Florence into 7 days. You’ll have too much travel time and not enough time to enjoy each city. There is so much to see in Rome that even 3 days there isn’t enough.

Note that if you arrive or end your trip in Florence, you’ll need to fly to or from a major European gateway i.e. Milan, Paris, Frankfurt, etc. There are no direct flights from Florence to the U.S. or Canada. That’s extra travel time you’ll need to factor in when planning your itinerary.

Yes. It’s very possible.

Check out organized travel companies like Eurpomundo who have such.
