Train between Prague and Berlin: how is the scenery?

Feel like a proper “train head” here, given that I keep asking about trains

Considering traveling between Vienna and Berlin by train, via Prague, this spring.

Has anyone taken the train from Prague to Berlin (or vice versa)?

Based on the Czech railways website, it’s a 4 hour train ride and costs between 30 and 40 eur - which I think is pretty decent (compared to some train prices in Germany and the UK…)

I’m curious to know what the scenery is like. I’ve done the Vienna to Prague train and bus – nice and comfy, and the train/bus passes some lovely towns along the way.

I’ve driven, Vienna to Berlin.

Driving means you can pick your own route (I avoid the Autobahns); so the scenery is almost always worth the extra time it takes, and we can stop at interesting towns and villages on the way.

By train, you go through fields; and not very slowly.

You probably see more by bus.

Where did you drive via? @TravelNotes

I’ve done Vienna to Katowice (EuroBasket 2025) by bus, and yes, I definitely saw more interesting places than I would have by train.

But I love trains, especially the Czech company https://regiojet.com/. Very affordable and comfortable. They also offer buses: the Prague-to-Berlin bus costs around 20 EUR and takes cca 4,5 hours.

I love trains too. Have driven through Austria and Germany many times, many different routes; different times of year.

They’re getting a little more keen on the speed cameras in Germany; and there’s an increasing number of 30kmh zones.

Some would say they’re trying to take the fun out of driving.
