Hi trainheads! I’m looking for suggestions on some scenic train routes in Europe – no specific location in mind.
Which ones are your favorite?
Some of my favorites:
The Oslo to Bergen train, which is hands down the most scenic route I’ve ever done.
London to Edinburgh has some lovely bits, especially through the LakeDistrict (if you go via the west coast) and around Newcastle (if you go via the east coast).
The Ötscherbär adventure train in Austria, from St Pölten (just west of Vienna) to Mariazell. It’s a slow train going through fields, hills, and mountains, with stunning views of lakes, forests and mountain tops.
On my list currently: the Edinburgh flyer, an old steam train from York to Edinburgh. Bit pricey, but I’ve watched a documentary episode on it, and it’s now top of my list!
