Trip report - Greece (Meteora & Delphi) 3 Day Tour - Oct 2024

Tour: 3 Days Tour From Athens To Meteora And Delphi by Visit Meteora with 4 Tour Reviews - TourRadar

When: October 2024

Why I chose this tour:
I wanted to see more of Greece beyond Athens and didn’t want to deal with logistics or driving, this itinerary fit the time frame and budget perfectly.

Highlights:

  • Sunset tour: Heading up the Meteora rock formation for the first close up glimpse of the monastries, which were stunning. We then headed to a sunset view spot where the sun set between rocks - beautiful!
  • Hiking: Hiking in a small group with the local guide, it was very gentle hike and we saw hermet caves and several monsatries in the rock faces you can not see by any other means! Ended at the great monestary before getting hiking back down the loop.
  • Delphi: This surprised, me, was actually my favourite place (even though I treated it as an added bonus). The views there are stunning, you can really feel the ancient energy and imagine the times of the orcales and ancient games/sports at the stadium.

Transport:

  • Coach between Athens and Delphi - comfortabe and punctual
  • Mini buese in and around Meteora
  • Private transfer to Delphi
  • Public bus back from Delphi to Athens (I saw people with negative vuews about this in reviews but I thought it was absolutely fine!)

Accommodation:

  • Stayed in a beautiful 3 star hotel Dellas Boutique, between the village of Kastraki and Kalambaka, so we could walk to both.
  • Our room was very large and had a wrap around balcony with views of Meteora as well as the mountains!
  • Good breakfast everyday!

Operator:

  • All communication from Visit Meteora leading up to the trip via TourRadar was great. Got detailed vouchers and asked many questions which were quickly answered.
  • The 2 guides we had were both fantastic, but especially the hike leader, had many interesting stories about being part of the rescue team on the rocks and had been hiking there since he was a child!
  • The drivers on various parts of the trip were also great (one even drove 30 mins to bring me my phone which i left behind!)
  • I loved the fact they were a local company (their office was in Meteora), and I was able to book it easily from the UK via TourRadar

Overall I highly recommend this tour and operator, and it was a highlight in Greece for me!
