I want to visit Egypt but unsure how safe it is currently with all that is happening. i will be traveling solo. looking to go in Decemebr around christmas time. would that be an ideal time to travel to Egypt? since i am a female traveling alone should i be worried about safety ive heard that they treat women diffrently. Also what type of clothing should i wear.
Following! I’ve been wanting to visit Egypt forever, but I’d like be travelling solo as I don’t know anyone else who’s that interested in visiting and I’m a bit unsure about it all.
In all my research and watching multiple TikToks about other travellers in Egypt, most people cover up quite a bit with loose clothing. If I go, I’d likely be taking lots of linen pieces, like wide leg pants, shirts and closed shoes in neutral colours as to avoid any unwanted attention.
Keen to see how people respond to this though!
Hi ladies! I just came back from holidays in Hurghada with my female friend and we had a wonderful time!
That being said, yes, women get a lot of attention in Egypt, no matter what you wear. Linen and conservative clothing outside of the resort are highly recommended.
I have yet to visit the historic places, but for that I’ll be taking a tour! It’s safer, cheaper, and there are lots of options that include everything depending on the number of days you have to travel. I am looking forward to BF to book mine!
So in short, if you stay at a resort, you are good. But if you want to see places, do not go alone! Book a tour instead and you’ll have an amazing time ![]()
Hi, I just got back 3 weeks ago from Cairo and Giza for 7 days solo. I never felt unsafe. I always use the common sense of not going out at night alone, etc. I would say Cairo is similar to Istanbul population wise, and just watch out for pickpockets, etc. I usually find my hotel online, and they reach out about local tours. Just a note on cash- yes, it’s better than card, but make sure you have new money without tearing or crumbling- regarding USD.
I just got back from 2 weeks in Egypt, from Cairo for a few days, to Nile Cruise and thena few days in Dahab.
I was with my partner and on 2 seperate group tours for most of it, but did venture out alone too.
My opinion, it is not unsafe, but could definitely be overwhelming with various people trying to talk to you etc etc. In Dahab, it was super chill and no one batted an eyelid when walking around. As for the other areas, I thing going with a guide/tour will just make your life so much easier (and in way more ways than just feeling safer).
As already mentioned, definitely dress modestly as you will stick out like a sore thumb otherwise. A trick i have often used travelling various places solo, is wearing a ring on my wedding finger - and if you get any hassle you can point to it. It doesn;t work miracles but is an easy get out to any convos that migt start up.
Generally, Egypt seemed really safe to me around all the tourist spots.
@ck_explorer1000 I was in Egypt in November and honestly, as a solo female traveler, my first two days were very challenging. I personally did not feel comfortable walking around alone at the beginning.
From my experience, I wouldn’t say it felt easy or relaxing for a solo woman without support. However, on my third day I joined a tour — and everything changed. The rest of my trip was smooth, enjoyable and much more comfortable.
If you’re considering going solo, I would strongly recommend joining a well-organised tour, especially for the first few days. It makes a huge difference in terms of ease, comfort and overall experience.
I travelled with Timeless Tours and had a very good experience with them. I highly recommend

I think it is safe overall. I would just respect culture, clothing, and learn some Arabic. Bring small bills to too in and make sure to barter for a good deal on products.
