How safe is solo travelling ? What should one keep in mind before doing their first solo trip?
Very dependent on where you are looking to travel to? As a solo female, I have done a fair bit of solo travelling, and personally love it. Just be aware of your surroundings, of course, but you will be absolutely fine!
If you are nervous, I do think that a tour could be a good way to ease into it

A great way to ease into it is to start your trip with a tour and then spend some time afterwards on your own. I have always loved doing this because then you get more comfortable with a space, learn from the guide about money and transport etc and meet new people. It can really help calm any nerves you may have
I’m doing this in Morocco and I think it’s such a smart way to travel a solo traveller ![]()
I have also done a fair bit of travel as a solo female, and agree with @bagelabroad - it really depends where you travel to. But generally speaking, research it beforehand and be vigilant.
While I have travelled solo a fair bit, I much prefer travelling with others personally - like on a group tour. You can still have your own space and go off and do you own things when you have free time - but you have a group and guide there ready to connect with too! ![]()
Agree with the general sentiment in these threads , that it depends where you are looking to go. I started solo travelling at the age of 18. I jumped on a European multi stop group tour so that I could get to know each city in a safe way with an expert guide and people that would be looking out for me. I did a trip that was like one of these: 10 Best Europe Tours & Trips 2025/2026 - TourRadar. I then went back to some of these locations on my own as I felt like I would be safe. I have done 8 multi day adventures solo so that I could explore a place while feeling safe (and making friends easily). Alternatively, I normally book into hostels so that I can meet others to go and explore with and most hostels I book into have a 24/7 front reception who is there to support me with my stay.
