Public Transit system in Costa Rica

So, my wife and I have booked a trip to Costa Rica. We are planning to arrive in Liberia and explore the city and then head up to La Fortuna and spend a few nights. I am pretty confused about the transit system there. I would love to know more from you if you have done a similar trip and what you did to move around from place to place. Did you rent a car or just use public transit? How reliable is it if I take public transit? Do people understand English or must I be prepared to use a translator to communicate? Please feel free to let me know!

this is a tough one, I know a lot of people who rented cars but I wasn’t totally comfortable driving. I booked private transfers with my hostels I stayed in but honestly it was expensive. Have you considered a tour? Your transportation is handled for you so a lot easier then needing to worry about these types of logistics

Yeah, I wouldn’t recommend trying to use the public transit in Costa Rica. I would either try a tour or rent a car and get around the country on your own. Also, a lot of folks in Costa Rica speak English relatively fluently, but it never hurts to have Google Translate downloaded, particularly if you are heading to more remote regions.
