Hey travelers!
Trying to nail down our Italy itinerary for late September. We want to see the Amalfi Coast but Positano hotel prices are making me physically ill.
Is it better to just base ourselves in Sorrento and take the ferry/bus over to see Positano and Amalfi? Or do you lose the “magic” by not waking up on the actual coast?
Also if anyone has some tour recommendations alongside some photos that would be great, as I have a hard time believing some of the reviews. Thanks
Sorrento can actually be a great base for exploring the Amalfi Coast, especially if Positano hotel prices feel a bit overwhelming. From Sorrento it’s quite easy to reach places like Positano and Amalfi by ferry or bus, and many travelers choose it for that reason.
You probably won’t lose the “magic” completely by staying there. The views and atmosphere along the Amalfi Coast are still amazing when you visit during the day. What Sorrento offers is a bit more space, slightly lower prices, and often easier logistics.
Taking the ferry between towns is also a really nice experience because you get beautiful views of the coastline from the water.
For a 4-night stay, basing yourselves in Sorrento and doing day trips to Positano and Amalfi can be a very practical and enjoyable option.
