Oaxaca day of the dead booking

I want to go to Oaxaca for Day of the Dead (Dia de los Muertos) next year.
How far in advance do I actually need to book the hotel? I’ve heard places sell out a year in advance.

Also, is it respectful for tourists to go to the cemeteries at night or is it becoming too invasive. My friend says she has been doing this every year, but I somehow sencd guess that.

I haven’t been yet but it’s on my list, and from what I’ve researched you should definitely book as early as possible—many places do sell out months (even a year) in advance.

About the cemeteries, I think it can be respectful if you go with the right mindset, but it’s important to be mindful and not treat it like a tourist attraction.

It’s such a unique and meaningful celebration, I’d love to experience it one day.

Hotels in Oaxaca for Día de los Muertos honestly can sell out super early, so I wouldn’t wait too long tbh. Also yeah, cemeteries at night are more of a family space, so just observe quietly if you go.
