Inspire me - working remotely

I’ve jsut landed a new job and will be able to work remotely for a few weeks a year. so far I’m planning Porto as I hear it’s a remote workers hotspot, and I’m keen to connect with more digital nomads! Any suggestions for other good places to take my laptop? I’ll be based in central Europe. And what are your tips to really make the most of a work/life/holiday balance?

Amazing! Porto will be perfect for this

I worked remotely for 1 month in Spain this year, as well as 1 month in Albania, and I loved it. I am based in Canada, so I had to work Canada (Toronto) hours while I was over in Europe, which was actually great! (2-10pm). I was able to do a lot during my days and then the lunch (dinner) break was quite late, but often when things are just opening up - especially in Spain. If I wanted to go out afterwards too, I could also sleep in a bit!

I think you can work well anywhere, as long as you have wifi! In Europe, it’s also quite easy to move around between most cities fairly quicly as well. Make the most out of it!

Hey Crystal,

Another ‘Digital Nomad’ here making the most of my remote working allowances!

So far I tend to stick to city breaks so that if the WiFi in my hotel or apartment lets me down I’m never too far from a coffee shop to work in.

My favorite trips this year were Amsterdam and Haarlem in the Netherlands, the place is really chill and great for getting lost in! I also took a couple of weeks to travel from Biarritz to San Sebastian and Bilbao.

Do you have flexible working time? My personal preference is to get up and start working as early as possible to get work ‘out of the way’ and can start my exploring/touring in the afternoon and long into the evening. I find it hard to unwind and really bask in a new place if I still have work to do, but each to their own!

I’m not sure about the rest of the globe, but don’t underestimate the trains in a lot of European countries! I travelled from Napoli all the way up to Vienna using the trains, and was able top use the Wifi to stay connected and get hours of work done. It meant I was able to see lots of Italy and a little of Austria without feeling the traveling days so bad.

I hope that helps! Look forward to hearing where you end up!
