We’re doing 8 days in Denmark in mid May and I feel like everyone just does Copenhagen + day trips, but I really want to sleep somewhere else too. Currently thinking 4 nights Copenhagen, then either Aarhus or Odense for 3 nights.
Aarhus looks like it has the better food/art scene (ARoS, Aarhus Street Food), but Odense has the Hans Christian Andersen thing and is closer to Funen countryside.
Anyone been to both recently? Which one is worth basing out of, not just a day trip? Also open to a completely different second base if someone has a better idea.
I studied in Denmark. I quite enjoyed going to Helsingør (you can go by train from Copenhagen on a day trip) to Kronborg Castle, which is also known as Hamlet’s Castle. You can see the coast of Sweden.
I studied Arhus on the Jutland peninsula. They have a beautiful opera house modeled after the one in Sydney.
Hans Christian Anderson was from Odense. They have a museum and monuments. It’s quite lovely.
I highly recommend Aarhus, both for the food/art scene and for the surroundings. To the northeast is Djursland Mols Bjerg national park, and to the west is the lake district around Silkeborg and Skanderborg.
