Has anyone managed to find any good sandy beaches in Croatia? I’m planning a visit next year as it the sea and coast look stunning, i havnlt decided exactly where to go yet. I’m not used to pebble beaches, but see these are quite common in Croatia, if anyone can recommend some nice spots/islands which sandy beaches let me know!
I was looking into this before my trip there this year, I couldn’t find that many around Dubrovnik (where I based myself). But i did see there is one on Lopud island that you can get a ferry to from Dubrovnik called Sunj beach.
Even though Banje beach in Dubrovnik is technically not sand, it had very fine pebbles so was easy to walk on and comfortable to lay down on, it’s a really pretty (although small) beach right in the city! So not all ‘pebble’ beaches necessarily should be avoided!
@laurie I have been to a few spots in Croatia. And they all had some version of a pebble beach. Certain beaches have bigger pebbles and other smaller ones. With the smaller pebbles it feels very much like sand and doesn’t stick to anything! Bonus!
With bigger pebble beaches it is good to have some water shoes or sandals to just make walking on them a little easier. An area I would recommend for you to visit is Makarska, a town on the Dalmatian Coast with beaches.
Here are some pictures from Croatia to show you the pebble beaches, the first two pictures are from Makarska.
My favourite beach in Croatia was Bol, on the island of Brac. It’s not quite sand, but very fine pebbles.
You can get there by ferry from Split. We took the car, and there was no shade in the car park; so we came back to an oven.
If you’re in northern Croatia you could try Lopar, on the island of Rab; located between Zadar and Rijeka.
Otherwise, take a look at some of these.
